WINDHAM - Donna Jeanne Aldrich, 86, of Windham, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Springbrook Nursing Care Center, Westbrook, where she had been a resident since February 2007.
She was born Feb. 26, 1922 in Minneapolis, Minn., to Charles and Aileene (Johnson) Olson of Wisconsin. She graduated from Ashland High School, Ashland, Wis. in 1940 and from Northland College in Ashland, Class of 1944.
On June 30, 1944, she married Stanley L. Aldrich and they began their 63 year life together. During the early years of their long marriage, she taught music and Spanish in the California schools. Their travels took them to many other states and also to Chile. In 1957, they moved to Windham, where Mr. Aldrich's ancestors had settled on Pope Road. They were very involved in politics and the environment and both taught in the local school district until retirement.
Mrs. Aldrich taught music and Spanish and, for many years, was the head of the music department, visiting all the district schools. She is well remembered by former students and fellow teachers. She was devoted to making a difference in other's lives and until she was 84 years old, she continued to teach music lessons in her home. She enjoyed gardening, community involvement, loved theatre, chocolate anything, baking and politics.
Her beloved husband, Stanley Loyall Aldrich, passed away on Nov. 20, 2007. They were companions at the same nursing home. She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth A. Aldrich of Ft. Washington, Md., and Jeanne C. Aldrich of Chandler, Ariz.
Dolby Funeral Chapel, Windham, is handling final arrangements. Visiting hours will be Tuesday, April 1 from 6-7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. following visiting hours. Interment will be in the family lot at Friends Cemetery, Windham, on June 30, 2008.
