Aldhizer Murder Probe Continued By Police Here
Authorities are continuing their investigation into their investigation into the circumstances which led to the shotgun slaying of James Herbert Aldhizer in his residence near Mt. Sidney. Vincent B. Forbus, 20-year-old soldier stepson of the 50-year-old dead construction laborer, has been charged with murder of his stepfather, Sheriff R. L. Shaver said yesterday. But no motive has been advanced for the slaying.
The man's body was found by a neighbor, Dewey N. Garber, who told officers he had not seen Mr. Aldhizer for several days and decided to investigate. On Tuesday afternoon the body was found in the Aldhizer residence on the I. J. Driver estate.
Mr. Aldhizer had been shot and killed with a 16-gauge shotgun last Friday, Sheriff Shaver said. The alleged murder weapon was found, broken in two pieces, in a well on the Driver estate yesterday morning.
Firemen Help - The Augusta County Fire Department assisted in recovery of the gun.
Forbus, who reportedly Is AWOL from the Army, has been placed under arrest on the murder charge. Yesterday no bond had been set for him.
A funeral service for Mr. Aldhizer are to be conducted this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock In the Middle River Church of the Brethren, near New Hope. The body will remain at the Fred Henry Funeral Home until one p. m. today.
The dead man was born March 24. 1902 in Augusta County of the late William Abraham and Rebecca Braden Aldhizer. Survivors are listed as two sisters. Mrs. Edith Hess, of Verona, and Mrs. Estalena Craig, of Grottoes. and three half sisters Mrs. Beulah Braden and Mrs. Bessie Foley, both of Staunton and Mrs. Bertie Braden, of Grottoes.
