J.E. ALDERMAN DIES; RITES HERE
James Edwin Alderman, 79, father of Mrs. Antoinette Merrell, Greensboro, and former local resident, died at 1:10 p.m. yesterday at his home in Gastonia following a heart attach and illness of weeks.
Graveside service will be held at Green Hilly Cemetery here at 3 p.m. Monday. Funeral will be conducted at East Baptist Church, Gastonia, at 4 p.m. today.
A native of Sampson County, Alderman moved to Greensboro in 1901 and for 26 years was accountant with Lindley Nurseries, Inc. he retired in 1927 and moved to Gastonia, where he spent his time growing flowers and shrubs. A charter member of Forest Avenue Baptist Church (now College Park), he was a deacon in East Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, the former Lou Garwood; four daughters, Mrs. Merrell, Mrs. W.A. Parker and Mrs. Roger P. Marshall, both of Raleigh, and Miss Alice Alderman, Gastonia; four grandchildren; one brother, Jacob Alderman, Chapel Hill, and one sister, Mrs. Lily Mitchell, Richmond, Va.
