Albert was the son of Edward S. and Katherine "Kate" Parrish Alder. He had an older sister, Hazel Edna Alder Phillips (1894–1944) and a younger brother, Carl H Alder (1903–1920). In 1900 (US Census details), Albert and his sister lived in Bourbon County, KY with their parents, aunt and uncle, cousins and maternal grandparents.
Around 1905 his mother was admitted with tuberculosis to Central State Hospital in Jefferson County, KY where she remained until her death in 1922. After her hospitalization, Albert and his siblings lived with their aunt and uncle, John and Jessie Kenady, in Harrison County, KY (according to the 1910 US Census and family records).
From 1917-1919, Albert served in the US Army during World War I. Military records give this summary of his service:
"Co B 1 Infantry ONG to 25 Oct 1917; Headquarters Company 148 Infantry to Discharge Private Meuse-Argonne; Ypres-Lys; Defensive Sector. Wounded In Action slightly 28 Sept 1918. American Expeditionary Forces 22 June 1918 to 23 March 1919. Honorable discharge"
After discharge he lived in Cincinati, Ohio before returning to live with his aunt and uncle in Berry, KY (Harrison County). It was sometime during this time, between his mid-20s and early 30s that he married for the first time and divorced. He fathered a son then as well.
From Dec 1920 to Dec 1921 Albert was at the US National Home for Disabled Soldiers, Johnson City, Washington County, Tennessee being treated for active TB. He returned to Berry, KY upon discharge.
In Oct 1947 in Harrison County, KY Albert married Lena Bell Anness Eckler, a widow with several children. Albert and Lena lived in Berry, KY until his death in 1985.
