Alberto Koppin Alcantara, 73, of Lake Charles, entered into rest Monday, October 17, 2011 from a Houston, TX hospital.
Mr. Alcantara was born in Cebu City, Philippines, raised and educated and retired an Infectious Disease Physician in the Philippines. He migrated to the United States in 1990, having made Lake Charles his home. He also retired after nearly twenty years of service as a Medical Technologist for Christus St. Patrick's Hospital.
Mr. Alcantara enjoyed basketball in his younger day, flower and vegetable gardening, working with his hands, cooking and feeding his family. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, where he was member of the ACTS Ministry and an Extraordinary Minister.
Mr. Alcantara was a devoted family man, spiritual, generous, strong, patient and kind. He made many sacrifices for his family, adored his wife, and was actively involved in his grandchildren's lives. He will be greatly missed.
He leaves to honor his memory, his loving wife of forty - three years, Teresa Palma Davo Alcantara of Lake Charles; two sons, Vincent Alcantara and wife Rachel of Lake Charles and Ray – Al Alcantara of Houston, TX; three daughters, Maria Faul and husband Beau, Thea Tran and husband Thien and Kristine Alcantara, all of Lake Charles; seven grandchildren, Anthony-Beau, Taylor-Therese, Emma-Bernadette, Tyler-Albert, Ian Alberto, Mila Julianne and Benjamin-Isaac; three brothers, Amado, Arturo and Angelito Alcantara, all of the Philippines and one sister, Edith Alcantara of Canada.
He was preceded in death by his parents, AnianoCastro and Maria Koppin Alcantara; one brother, Amando Alcantara and one sister, Emma Guatelara.
A mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Monsignor James Gaddy will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata cemetery. Visitation Friday will be from 2:00 PM until 10:00 PM with a scripture service and rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation Saturday will be from 8:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
