RD3 US COAST GUARD WWIIDR. GORDON F. ALBRIGHT Passed away June 29, 2004, following a long illness. For over 45 years, Dr. Albright made many contributions to the quality of education in Seattle-area schools. In Bellevue, City University officially renamed their school of education after Dr. Albright. This is the first school within the university to be named after an individual. Born in Alameda, California, on August 31, 1923. He graduated from Alameda High School, Class of June 1941. He was voted "best actor" for his performance in "Once in a Lifetime." Gordon was a fun person to be around and was liked by all who knew him. Dr. Albright moved to Seattle in 1948. A graduate of Seattle University, he taught social studies in 1952 at Sharples Junior High School. He eventually moved into school administration and served as principal of several Seattle public schools. In 1956, Dr. Albright won a Fulbright Scholarship and moved his family to Lillehammer, Norway, as an exchange teacher. In 1960 he received his Master's Degree from Seattle University. In the summer of 1965 Dr. Albright was leader of the Seattle-Kobe cultural exchange. He accompanied seven students from various high schools to Japan for a month. In 1979 he received his Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership from Seattle University. During the summer months, Dr. Albright attended numerous seminars and educational programs through the years. These include the John Hay Fellowship, I.B.M. Executive Program at their headquarters in San Jose, California, and several National Science Foundation grants through the University of Colorado. A pioneer of education, Dr. Albright's achievements include director of Northeast Educational Complex, Seattle Public Schools, co-founder of Nathan Hale Community School, principal of Nathan Hale High School with 2,200 students, and the C.F. Ketterine, Ltd., Grant Individualized Continuing Education for Secondary Principals. In addition to working with the Seattle Public Schools, Seattle University and South Seattle Community College, Dr. Albright has worked with City University for more than thirteen years as associate dean for the school of education and special assistant to the president in program development. It is clear that Dr. Gordon Albright's contribution to education has been and remains one of significance. Dr. Albright served in the Coast Guard during World War II, and saw active duty aboard the USS Long Beach. Family, friends and colleagues will miss his witty and infectious humor. He is survived by his beloved wife, Virginia, to whom he has been married for over 61 years. He is also survived by three children, Kathleen Clancy, Joan Silkas and Richard Albright. He has 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society. Services will be held at St. James Episcopal Church at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2004. Braun Funeral Home in Cashmere, Wash., has been entrusted with arrangements.
