Allen M. Alboum, 86, of 964 Helen Ave., died Monday at St. Joseph Hospital after a six-week illness.
An insurance agent and broker, he owned Allen M. Alboum Insurance Agency, Lancaster, for 45 years. He sold the company to Gingrich Stoudt Insurance Co. in 1989 and was currently employed there at the time of his death.
He practiced before the Certified Interstate Commerce Commission.
Alboum earned his bachelor's degree from Franklin & Marshall College in 1933 and attended Temple University Law School.
The Allen M. Alboum Prize is awarded to a Franklin & Marshall geology major who shows the greatest aptitude for the field of geology.
He was a member of Temple Shaarai Shomayim, Lancaster, B'Nai B'rith, Congregation Temple Beth El, Jewish Community Center, Meadia Heights County Club and Association of Independent Insurance Agents.
He was a lifemaster of the American Contract Bridge League.
He enjoyed classical music, flamenco dancing, golf and gourmet food.
Born in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of the late Emanuel and Sadie Hurwitz Alboum.
He was married to Eleanor Schaffer Alboum for 57 years in October.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Carol, wife of Michael Gleiberman of Lancaster; a son, Barry of Lancaster; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a brother, Harold of Philadelphia.
