Abraham "Fiack" Albert, 92, of Kiski Township, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, in Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, Dallas, Texas. He was born Feb. 6, 1917, in Vandergrift, a son of the late Michael and Rose (Essey) Albert. He lived in the Kiski Valley most of his life.
He was employed by the United Steel Workers of American as a union representative, retiring in 1981. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. He was a member of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Apollo, Vandergrift VFW and Vandergrift American Legion.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn E. (Gallo) Albert; brothers, Frederick, Samuel "Shy", George "Ben", Willie and Ralph "Sub" Albert; and sister, Annie Hanna.
He is survived by a son, Frederick "Rick" (Melinda) Albert, of West Leechburg; three daughters, Colleen (Steve) Rickenbacher, of Dallas, Texas, Tammy (George) Gary, of Monroeville, and Judi Albert, of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Irene Kerr, of Apollo, and Norma (Clifford) Oplinger, of Vandergrift; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME, Apollo. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. James Roman Catholic Church, Apollo, with Monsignor Larry Kiniry as celebrant. Everyone please meet at the church.
Interment in Riverview Cemetery, Apollo. Armstrong County.
American Legion Honor Guard will conduct military services at 6 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
