SOUTH GARDINER - Cecile Marie Duquette, of South Gardiner, passed away peacefully July 12, 2014, with her family by her side. Cecile was born on Oct. 23, 1920, in St. Agatha, Maine, to George Albert and Isabelle Plourde Albert.

Cecile worked at the Sporting Club on Long Lake as a young teenager before moving to Lewiston to work in the mills.

She met the love of her life, Alcide Duquette "Pop," when she moved to Lewiston and they married on Jan. 12, 1945. Cecile and Pop lived in South Gardiner, where they raised their family.

Cecile is survived by her sons, James "Jim" Duquette of Manchester, Charles Duquette and his wife, Sandra, of Pinellas Park, Fla., and Michael Duquette and his wife, Pam, of South Gardiner, whom she shared a residence with for the past 33 years; and her daughter, Anne Albert, and her husband, Phil, of Maineville, Ohio. She is also survived by her many grandchildren, Dawnn Hannan, Tammy Hilliard, Tobey Duquette and his wife, Jennifer, Erika Lyons and her husband, Seth, Andrea Colfer and her husband, Josh, Alana Verhille and her husband, Eric, Michael Albert, and Kelsey MacDonald and her husband, Sean. Cecile has many great-grandchildren whom she adored and is survived by Daysha Hannan, Wyatt, Owen, Jacob and Isabella Lyons, Liam, Landon and Lukas Verhille, and Dylan and Logan Duquette. She is also survived by a special niece, Georgette Beaulieu, of Presque Isle; and a special little dog, Sadie.

Cecile is predeceased by her husband, Alcide Duquette; her parents; her brothers, Norman, Joseph "Pit" and Gerard; her sister, Jacqueline; as well as her special brother in-law, Raymond Duquette.

Cecile loved to crochet, cook, bake, garden, read books and enjoy the company of her family. Cecile had a sweet tooth, making sure desserts were always available and never passing one up. Cecile always welcomed everyone to the house, hosting family and friends on holidays. The highlights of her days were her daily visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Cecile lived at home until her passing. She was an active member of St. Joseph's Parish in Gardiner. For many years, she worked for the parish priests, cooking and cleaning for the rectory before retiring to spend all of her time with her family, whether it was home or traveling across the country. Her love, soft hands, warm smile and comforting grace will be forever missed, but always remembered.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gardiner. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in South Gardiner beside her husband. (Kennebec Journal 7/15/2014)
