Ellen Florence Alander of Prineville died June 17, 2001. She was 92 years old.
She was born April 20, 1909 in Oakley, Iowa to Zora Burgett Johnson and Grover Johnson, the eldest of eight children. The family moved to Wallowa where she spent her childhood helping on the family farm.
She attended school in Wallowa, graduating in 1927. She attended Benkie-Walker Business School in Portland. She worked as her father's secretary in the Oregon Legislature in 1929 and for Kenworth in Portland prior to moving to Prineville.
She married Frank Alander in 1930 in Vancouver, Wash. The couple moved to Prineville in the mid 30s where they sold Hudson automobiles and operated an auto repair shop. She worked for Les Schwab main office until retiring in the 60s.
She was a member of the Prineville Community Church, Prineville Garden Club, local Granges, the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her siblings Joe Johnson of Pullman, Wash., Tom Johnson of Wallowa, Winona Holloway of Live Oak, Calif., Maybeth Wilson of Marion, Los Angeles and Grace Moores of Wallowa; son, Norman Alander of Knoxville, Iowa; daughter Nancy Harder of Prineville; grandchildren Stephen Alander, Cheryl Burdick, Bonnie Myskowski, Candice Belveal, Jan Womach and Tim Thompson; 18 great-grandchildren and four great-greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and one granddaughter.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Pioneer Memorial Hospital, Hospice.
Private interment will be held at Juniper Haven Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at the home of Nancy Harder in Prineville, time and date to be announced later.
Whispering Pines Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

NOTE: The obituary is incorrect. Her parent came to Wallowa, Oregon shortly after they were married in February 1907. Ellen was the second of nine children, she had an older infant unnamed brother who was born and died on March 8, 1908 in Wallowa, Oregon.
