AKINS, AMOS P.—Age, 19 years. Enlisted, August 12, 1862, at Rockland, New York to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. A, 143rd infantry, October 8, 1862; promoted corporal, prior to April, 1863; sergeant, no date; killed July 20, 1864, at Peach Tree Ridge, Ga.
Orig. bur. at Peach Tree Creek battlefield. See Edwin Everden for more information about his death. Five men of the 143rd New York were killed in the incident: Corpl Dibble, Henschen, Vansicklen, Everden and Akins.
