George Akin enlisted as in Company K, 7th Tennessee Cavalry on May 1, 1863 in Gibson County, Tennessee. He was captured at Union City, Tennessee on March 24, 1864 and sent to Andersonville Prison. He died of scorbutus.

He was a native of Gibson County, Tennessee. He married Sinah Melvina Mullins in Gibson County. She drew a Widow's Pension until her death in 1908.
