Mrs. Iona Johnson Dover Akins, 89, of 55 Tillery Road, Aragon, passed away early Saturday morning, July 29, 2006.

Mrs. Akins was born on April 13, 1917 in Murphy, N.C., daughter of the late Mary Hawkins Johnson and the late Grover Cleveland Johnson. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Akins was preceded in death by her husbands, Mr. Ben Dover and Mr. Lother Leland Akins; two brothers, Mr. Amos Johnson and Mr. G. C. Johnson.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Geraldine Dover of Aragon, Harvey Lee Dover of Rockmart, and Edward and Kathy Akins also of Rockmart; a brother, Ray Johnson of Rockmart; three sisters, Mrs. Essie Lee Craft of Rome, Mrs. May Hardin of Euharlee, and Mrs. Luna Swain of Blairsville; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild also survives.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 31 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Rev. John Hooper officiating. Interment followed in the family lot of Wax Cemetery.

Freeman Harris Funeral Home had charge of the funeral arrangements.
