STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mrs. Dorothy Wilma Lord Akins, age 83, died on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County graduated from Marvin Pittman High School and Augusta Business College. Mrs. Akins worked as a bookkeeper for many years at Youngblood Ford, Grinnell Corporation and other companies locally. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robbie Akins; a daughter, Serena Akins; two sisters, Hilda Hendrix and Carolyn Blackburn; and a brother, Leo Lord.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert Akins and Dennis and Cindy Akins, all of Statesboro; three granddaughters, Leslie (Shane) Howell, Lindsay (Paul) Uelman and Stephanie (Chris) Turner, all of Statesboro; a grandson, Stan Akins of Statesboro; 11 great-grandchildren, a sister, Annie Ruth Jackson of McDonough, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
A visitation will be held on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Osborne officiating. Interment will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Cartee, Jerry Marsh, Stan Akins, Billy Howell, John Hendrix and Dan Mahaffey.
