Shannon arrived in Missouri in 1834.
"The small town of Akinsville in Morgan County, Missouri, was named for Shannon Akin, who was the owner of the land on which the town was built. It was located in the northeast corner of the county, near the Moniteau Co. line. It was 2 1/2 miles west of Fortuna, Missouri." (--The State of Mo., in 1904", p. 457.)
Also named for Shannon Akin was Akinsville School which was located in Mill Creek Township, one-half mile northeast of Akinsville. Again Reverend Shannon Akin owned the land on which the school was located.
Shannon married Kitturah Durnang on June 23, 1836. Their children were

Elizabeth,

John F.
Nancy Jane,
Alfred Bethel,
Mary Elizabeth,
Porter Davis, and
Russell David.
Shannon became a widower in 1873, after 37 years of marriage.
On June 2, 1874, he married Nancy Fisher.
