George E. Akers, 77, of Ironton passed away Wednesday (November 22, 2006) at Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky. The Ironton native was born June 1, 1929, the son of the late Ralph and Mattie Brown Akers.
He was the husband of Anna Lee Salyers Cochran Akers, who survives.

Mr. Akers was in the U.S. Air Force, a member of VFW Post 8850, American Legion, Fraternal Order of Police, Kentucky Colonel and the Ohio Chief of Police Association. He was a retired Chief of Police from Ironton, a graduate of Ironton High School and attended Jeffersonville Missionary Baptist Church in Coal Grove and 10th Street Tabernacle in Ironton. He lived all his life in Ironton.
