1972, By request I will write a short obituary of Uncle B. K. (Ben) Akers. He was born Jan. 12, 1875, the first of 13 children, to the late Eligah E. and Cynthia (Rice) Akers. He departed this life on March 26, 1972. His stay here was 93 years, 2 months and 14 days. He was blessed with a long and fruitful life. Bro. Ben was united in marriage to Marloam (Mell) Clark, the daughter of I. N. (Nick) and Lathonia (Smiley) Clerk, Dec. 27, 1899, and unto this union were born 3 children. One boy, French, and one girl, Dixie, died in infancy. One daughter, Forrest Love, who married Arnold Robinett. They had one son Glenn, two daughters, Loretta and Leon. Love preceded him in death August 17, 1937. Aunt Mell was a member of the Old Regular Baptist for about 60 years. She preceded him in death Sept. 9, 1967. Brother Ben joined the Little Salem Church of the Old Regular Baptist the third Sunday in June 1957 and was baptized by J. P Hall. He was a faithful member and always stood for good order in the church, although he was not discourage with the church troubles. He always said God would deal out justice to all. Brother Ben had good heath and was able to go where he wanted to until about three months before his death. Brother Ben and Sister Mell made their home with their granddaughter, Loretta and Junior Conn for several years. He leaves behind 3 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 4 brothers, and 1 sister: F. M. (Marion), Med M. Edmond Pearl, Allen W. and Mrs. W. B. Boyd. Also, 2 uncles, P.T. Rice, and George N. Akers and many relatives and friends are left to mourn his Passing. We all feel he has just left a troublesome world and that God has just called him over home where no trouble can come. May his grandchildren always remember his love and kindness that he had for them. Written by a Nephew, Walter L. Akers
