AN OLD MAN
Asa Akerly Passed Away onMonday, Always Lived In This Village
Asa Akerly, one of the oldest and most substantial members of this community to which his entire life has been dedicated, died at the home of his son, Cornelius, Monday morning after an illness of soveral years. He was 84 years of age having boon born in this village December 12, 1833.

The funeral was held from the late home on Wednesday at 2 o'cock and was largely attended. The services were conducted by Rev. Earlo N. Hubbard. The Masonic Lodge was present in a body and conducted the services at the grave.

Asa Akerly had seen many changes in Margareville during the years of his life. For many years he conducted a shoe shop here. This was in the days before shoes could be bought at the stores. He employed about eight men and his shop was one of the most thriving institutions in tho village. His shop was on tho site of the present Sperling meat market.

He married Julia Dumond, a sister of Prof. N. H. Dumond, who died at Tarrytown last week. She has been dead for 38 years. There are two children Cornelius J. of this village and Miss Kate, a member of the faculty of the Windsor High School.

Mr. Akerly was the oldest member of Margaretville Lodge No. 389 F. & A. M., having joinod in 18G0. For fifty years he has been a faithful member of the local Methodist church and for 25 years a member of the official board.

One of his greatest desires In life was to see the prohibition of the whiskey traffic. For years and years he voted the only Prohibition ticket in this district and at each election time was held up as an object of ridicule because of this. He was determined in purpose and always believed that the day he hoped for would come. It has been a source of great satisfaction to him in the last few years to see his judgment vindicated in both local and national affairs.
