PRESQUE ISLE – Dorothy K. Akeley, 86, resident of Presque Isle from 1951 to 1968, died Jan. 23, 2007, at Methodist Hospital, Philadelphia. She was born Feb. 28, 1920, in Rochester, Minn., the only child of Dora and Rudy Ernst. Dorothy graduated from St. Olaf College. She taught school in northern Minnesota before marrying Roger Akeley, who owned Akeley Adjustment Service, Presque Isle, and then was vice president of California Mutual Insurance Co., Ventura, Calif., before he died in 1983. Dorothy was an advisory committee member of Lutheran Brotherhood and community volunteer in Ojai, Calif. She also taught fourth grade in Meiners Oaks for several years. She is survived by two sons and a daughter, Roger Jr. of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Winfield of Philadelphia and Karen Norman of Ventura, Calif. Dorothy is also survived by five grandchildren, Wyeth of Newburgh, N.Y., Jonathan of Astoria, N.Y., Maya of Phoenix, Nathaniel Norman and Alec Norman, both of Ventura, Calif. There will be a graveside service this summer in Presque Isle at Fairmount Cemetery. Donations may be sent to Advancement Office, St. Olaf College, 1520 St. Olaf Ave., Northfield, MN 55057.
