On October the 10th at 5 p.m., 1887, in Richland Twp., Pa., of softeni ng of the brain, Herman Ahlum, aged 82 yrs., 3 mos., and 8 days. He was b orn in Haycock Twp., Bucks Co., Pa., on July 2, 1805, and was a son of Jo hn and Catharine (Yost) Ahlum. Baptized in infancy by Rev. Nicholas Mensc h. Sponsors, Herman and Elizabeth Yost. In later years he was confirm ed at Trumbauersville by Rev. Frederick Waage; and subsequently he beca me a member at Richlandtown. On September 3, 1837, he was married to Hann ah (Fluck) Sterner, Rev. Wm. B. Kemmerer officiating. This union was bles sed with one son and three daughters; a step-daughter, a daughter of his w ife from a former husband, received the care, attention and support as tho ugh she had been his own. He lived to see ten grandchildren. For more th an a year his mind had been wavering, and the last eight weeks of his li fe he was confined to his bed. Mr. Ahlum was highly respected by all w ho knew him, being a good neighbor, a kind husband, indulgent father a nd a consistent church member. The widow, one son, one daughter, eight gr andchildren and one brother, Ephraim Ahlum of Quakertown, survive him.
