It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a dear husband and father, Santiago A. Aguiar. In spite of a long and difficult illness, he maintained unfailing optimism, interest in life, a sense of humor, close friendships, and a deep love for his family. He will be greatly missed by those of us who relied on his love, friendship and support.
Santiago was born in Guadalupe, Arizona, on February 5, 1920. However, he lived and worked in Yuma for over 80 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rafael Aguiar and Carmen Aguilar Aguiar; his infant twin brother, and other brothers, Francisco, Ruben and Rafael.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elvira Heredia Aguiar; their three daughters, Delia A. Bernal (Andrew), Mary Barajas (Luis) and Martha Gonzalez (Ted). In addition, he is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Santiago was proud to be a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Army, and he was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.
Services will be at Johnson Mortuary, with the Wake on Friday, May 16, 2003, from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m., and Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis at 9:00 a.m., Saturday May 17, 2003. Interment will follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, in Yuma, Arizona.
