CORINTH - Bertha Lee Betts Agnew, 84, died Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at the Magnolia Regional Hospital. She attended school at Saint Luke School and was a member of the Mason Saint Luke M.B. Church. While able, she was active in the Missionary Society and a member of the Stewardess Board at City Road CME Temple. She enjoyed cooking, canning and taking care of babies. She was a hard working and very loving woman who cared for others more than herself.
Services will be at noon Monday at City Road CME Temple with the Rev. Kenneth Carter officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Patterson Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Loyal (Annie D.) Agnew of Corinth and Everett (Geteline) Agnew of Memphis; four daughters, Elois (Roy L.) Simmons of Youngstown, Ohio, Ida E. Agnew of Memphis, Paulette Justice of Corinth and Debra Jane (Daniel Ray) Alexander of Tishomingo; two brothers, Fenton (Vinnie) Betts of Corinth and Frank (Maggie) Betts of Ohio; two sisters, Catherine Williams of Youngstown, Ohio, and Helen (Robert) Ross of Corinth; a brother-in-law, Willie J. Carter Sr.; two sisters-in-law, Ozella Betts of Corinth and Lorraine Betts of Markham, Ill.; 19 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Quitman Agnew; three sons, Morris and wife, Katie, Quitman "Sonny" Agnew Jr. and Charles Agnew; three brothers, Robert Betts, Charlie Betts and Carl Betts; two sisters, Mary Lizzie and Stella Carter.
