GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Joe L. Agnew, 74, died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at Metropolitan Hospital in Byron Center, Mich. He was a member of First Community AME Church in Grand Rapids. He was a 1959 graduate of Guntown Colored High School and a 1963 graduate of Mississippi Vocational College Itta Bena, where he majored in brick masonry.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ebernezer M.B. Church in Guntown. Brown Funeral Home of Grand Rapids is in charge.
He is survived by one daughter, Stephanie Marie Agnew, and one son, James Corey Agnew, both of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two granddaughters, Ashante Nicol Banks and Brianna Mari McSwain, both of Grand Rapids; four sisters, Sula M. Agnew of Guntown, Bertha A. Thomas of Tupelo, Annie A. Robins (Leo) of Guntown and Debra R. Agnew of Saltillo; two nieces, Marilyn S. Motley (Jesse) of Memphis and TeKeishia L. Robins of Guntown; three nephews, Leo R. Robins Jr. and Brandon C. McFadden of Saltillo and Genelius McFadden of Baldwyn; one great-niece, Kellie C. Hodges of Memphis; three great-nephews, Keldrick C. Hodges of Tupelo, Nathaniel Louis Robins and Hunter Daniel Robins of Guntown; one great-great-nephew, MaKenzie Hodges of Tupelo; and a host of cousins.
He was preceded in death by wife, Earnestine McNeil Agnew; his parents, Thurman "Crocker" and Ruby C. Agnew; one brother, Charles E. Agnew; and his grandparents.
