Ruthanna Borden, 94, Peru, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2012, at St. Vincent's Heart Center, Carmel.

She was born in Miami County on June 8, 1917, the daughter of Earl and Hazel Pence Agness. Ruthanna married Harold Borden on Dec. 31, 1940, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 1999.

Ruthanna was a 1935 graduate of Clay Township High School and a retired Butler Township homemaker.

They lived on their family farm for 58 years, and she moved to the Blair Ridge retirement community in 2001 and resided there until her death.

Ruthanna and Harold also wintered in Bradenton, Fla., for 27 years. She was a member and active in the McGrawsville United Methodist Church, where she had served as President of the United Methodist Women.

She was active in the Butler Happy Homemakers for over 70 years, and she served as a Pink Lady for the Dukes Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Ruthanna was a devoted wife, a wonderful mother and a loving grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, ceramics and making afghans for her family. She delighted in entertaining her family and friends for special events and celebratory dinners.

Surviving are sons, Glenn (Janellyn) Borden, of Fort Wayne, and Max (Janey) Borden, of Rochester; a daughter, Marcia (John) Graft, of Fishers; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Sara) Borden, of Walton, Philip (Catherine) Borden, of Cambridge, Mass., Greg (Julie) Borden, of Naples, Fla., Abigail (Kevin) Renie, of Rochester, Nicholas (Lindsay) Borden, of Naples, Fla., Ryan (Alison) Graft, of Carmel, and Shawn (Alex) Graft, of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; and great-grandchildren, Jacob Borden, Reece and Davis Renie, Cole, Anna and Brooke Borden, and Claire and Elise Graft. Also surviving are sisters, Geneva Willson, of Kokomo, and Carolyn Einselen, of Peru; and a brother, Gene (Fern) Agness, of Bradenton, Fla.

Preceding her in death were brothers, Mark, Herman, Thurman and Richard Agness; and a sister, Beulah Harts.

A service celebrating the life of Ruthanna Borden will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the McGrawsville United Methodist Church, 9377 S. 300 East, Amboy, IN, 46911, with Pastor Steve Austin officiating. Burial will be in Santa Fe Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main St., Peru, IN 46970.
