Cleo Agness passed quietly into the hands of her Lord on Sunday, July 5, 2009 surrounded by her loving family. Cleo and her twin brother Clyde were born on September 10, 1920 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Mae & Robert Sorenson. Upon graduating with honors from high school, Cleo continued her education and graduated from the Minnesota School of Business. On Dec. 14, 1945, Cleo Sorenson married LeRoy Agness, enjoying 63 years of marriage and celebrated the arrival of their three children Nancy, Diane & Neil. In 1965, the Agness family relocated to Bakersfield. Cleo worked for 13 years at the Kern County Health Dept. After a year, she deceded retirement wasn't for her and went to work for Kern City Realty. Cleo and Ag were also charter members of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, which later merged with Emmanuel Lutheran. Cleo shared her gift of music with her Christian family by playing the organ at church for many years. Cleo's gifts of love and hospitality were shared with all as she created a beautiful home for her family to enjoy with many wonderful holiday gatherings. Cleo has left a legacy of love for Jesus with her music and the way she lived her life. Everyone that came in contact with her was blessed with love and kindness. Thank you God for the gift of Cleo in our life. Cleo and Ag lived in Kern City for 30 years before they moved to the Westchester house. The family is most appreciative of the love and care given to their Mom; Grandma. Nancy, Diane and Neil are so blessed to have them become a part of their family. The family also wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation to Hoffman Hospice. Cleo was preceded in death by her parents Mae and Bob, her twin brother Clyde and her loving husband Ag. She is survived by her children Nancy (Zornig) Palmer and husband Ben, Diane Fonner and husband Rob, Neil Agness and wife Diann. She was the adored grandmother to Billy Dean Van Boening Jr., Kevin Ritchey, Laurie (Van Boening) Williams and husband Billy Ray, Aaron Agness and wife Bridgette. She is also Nana to Dewayne and McKinzie Williams. She will be missed by many special nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of floral offerings, remembrances may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church 1900 Baker St. Bakersfield, CA. 93305 or Teen Challenge P.O. Box 1011, Bakersfield, CA 93302. Services will be held Saturday, July 11, 2009, 10:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Visitation will take place thirty minutes prior to the service. Graveside Services will be held on Monday, July 13, 10:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Southwest, 2739 Panama Lane. Cleo Mae Agness 1920 - 2009 Greenlawn Southwest Mortuary
