Ida Aggen Chilton Times October 21, 1899
In memory of Ida, eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Simon Aggen, who died suddenly Friday evening, October 13.
As silently and mysteriously as the frost comes to blight the fair flowers that come under its sway, so death came and removed from our midst this loving, gentle girl. We mourn for her departure, since to us it seems too soon; for like a bud about to blossom, so full of promise her life appeared to be.
Our sympathy is with those that feel the loss so heavily; as for ourselves, we shall keep with tender thoughts the memory of a kind and lovable friend, one who was anxious ever to please, and slow to offend. Just about to enter the domain of young womanhood, with a pleasant home so dear to her, with numerous friends and companions, her future seemed to hold only the promise of well-earned joys and deserved happiness. In vain these promises! These hopes are all shattered now, and a home, once made cheerful by her presence, is left desolate in its bereavement.
A leaden sky hung over all, as for the last time we looked upon those features so familiar, yet so intensely calm and still; but a wonderful transformation from the dreary gray to a brilliant, rose-hued, evening sky at sunset, came like a consolation, for it seemingly bade the afflicted ones to hope for a sunny morrow.
