Alta A. Agard, 101, formerly of 451 Canisteo Street passed away Monday (June 18, 2007) at McAuley Manor surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Wayland, January 31, 1906, the daughter of Leonard and Minnie Knolton Kuhn, she was a graduate of Wayland High School, and attended teachers training class. Alta taught in rural school districts in the Dansville and Wayland areas for 3 years. Later, she was employed as a seamstress at the former Hickey Freeman Plant in Hornell, and following that, she assisted her husband, Harold, in the operation of the Agard Upholstery Shop in Hornell. She was a member of the Hornell United Methodist Church.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold Agard in 1998, one brother, Howard Kuhn, and her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Lewellen Weber.
She is survived by two daughters: Margaret "Peg" (Joseph) Doorley of Almond and Carolyn Lang of Dansville, 7 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews

The family will be present to receive friends from 1 PM to 3 PM Saturday at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St., Hornell. A private funeral service will be held for the family with Rev. Terry Kelly officiating. Burial will be in Clearview Cemetery, Atlanta.
