Carolyn Johnson Agard, 66, died March 21, 2014, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 21, 1947, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of William R. and Irene (Redmond) Lewis.

She grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y.

She graduated from Prospect Heights High School, and attended Molloy College in Rockville Center, N.Y.

After high school, she married Harrell Rudy Johnson. He predeceased her.

She had a varied working career, starting with banking on Wall Street, then retail with department stores in New York City. She also performed clerical functions for the Department of Corrections on Rikers Island. She was one of the first women to operate heavy equipment for the Hempstead County in New York. She also worked for the Catholic charities of the Archdiocese of New York.

She married Eduardo J. Agard on April 26, 1997, in Clark County, Nev.

She enjoyed the mountains and lakes of Vermont, and the basketball program at Middlebury College, where her husband was an assistant coach. She also enjoyed dancing and the dance recitals she performed at Miss Jackie's School of Dance.

Survivors include her husband, Ed Agard of Wells; her daughters, Terri Johnson, Leslie Johnson David, and Kim Johnson; six grandchildren; her sisters, Marilyn Murphy, Jacqueline Jones, Pauline Sterling and Mary Jerice Reed; her brothers Herman Hiers Jr. and Dawud Abdulrasheed; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and stepfather, Herman Hadley Hiers Sr.

A memorial service will be held at a future date at Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland, and in Brooklyn, N.Y.
