Albert Gideon Agard was the son of James Smith Agard and Nancy Vales (1783-1870).

He first married Mary Elizabeth Coyle on 4 Dec 1859 in Adams County, Illinois. They are found in the 1870 census for Chariton County, Missouri: Albert G Agard and Mary E. No children are listed.

Mary died in 1872, and Albert married his second wife, Emma J Hanks, in about 1882. They had two children: Elda Mae and Harry Elbert.
