AGAN

Alfred Otis Agan, eldest son of Lemuel and Zephyrine Grimes Agan, was born Dec. 28, 1899, near Purdy. He passed away Feb. 20, 1990, at the Knoxville Community Hospital in Knoxville at the age of 90 years, one month and 23 days.

He lived his entire life in Lucas and Monroe Counties, with the exception of six years spent in Colorado, where his parents took up homesteading.

On April 22, 1925, he married Mary Louise Shore and together engaged in the field of agriculture and operated a dairy until retirement. He accepted Christ as his savior when a young man in his early 20's at an old-fashioned tent meeting. He had strong beliefs in promoting what he felt was right for his community and fellow man.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1975, shortly after their golden wedding anniversary; his parents; a brother, William; two sisters, Catherine Gillespie and Doris Nauman; and a grandson, Larry Cain.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Corrine Cain and husband Arthur of Chariton, and Wilma Prewitt and husband Dr. James of Florissant, Mo.; five grandchildren, Calvin Cain of Ankeny, Curtis Cain of Chariton, Cynthia Weaver of St. Louis, Mo., Darci Hunter and Sylvia Prewitt, both of Florissant, Mo.; three great-granddaughters, Rebecca and Lois Cain of Ankeny and Katherine Hunter of Florissant, Mo.; a sister, Dorothy Brown of Schaumburg, Ill., a brother, Maurice Agan, and his wife Merle, of Chariton; two sisters-in-law, Georgia Hubler of Columbia, and Clara Westman of Russell. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 23, 1990, at 1:30 p.m. at the Fielding Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Cooper officiating. Serving as bearers were James Hunter, Jr., Thomas Weaver, Calvin Cain, Curtis Cain, John Agan and Joe Agan.

Interment was in the Zion Cemetery.
