Alvina Aerni, 93, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at the Columbus Community Hospital.

The funeral service will be Saturday, July 20, 10:30 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Revs. Patrick Sparling and Kurt Ebert officiating. Interment will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Saturday from 9:30 - 10:30 A.M. at the church with a family prayer service at 10:15 A.M. Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church or School.

Alvina Henrietta Aerni was born March 4, 1920, in Platte County, Nebraska, to Gottfried and Elise Wilhelmine “Minnie” (Wurdemann) Marty. She was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church. Alvina attended Christ Lutheran Grade School. On February 18, 1941, Alvina was united in marriage to Philip Aerni at Christ Lutheran Church. She was a homemaker. Alvina enjoyed reading, embroidery work, gardening, keeping a tidy house, and spending time with her grandchildren. She had been an active member of the “City Ladies Aid” where she had served as secretary and treasurer. She was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and had served as treasurer. Alvina was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Daughter – Sharon (Ted) Otte of Columbus, NE
Daughter – Betty Giesselmann of New Germany, MN
Grandchildren – Todd Muhle of Leigh, NE; Kurt Muhle of Valley, NE; Jim (Lori) Otte of Lincoln, NE; Sandra (John) Brutty of Columbus, NE; Mark (Angela) Otte of Lincoln, NE; Julie (Troy) Herrmann of Cologne, MN; and Brenda Giesselmann of Richfield, MN
