Birth: Oct. 21, 1862
Death: Sep. 28, 1900
Carrollton
Greene County
Illinois, USA

The son of my ancestor, JOHN WILLIAM ADMIRE and his wife, Sena Elizabeth (Fletcher) Admire, Fred married Sally Belle (Gay) Reynolds, widow of James Reynolds, on June 26, 1888 in Green Co., Ill.

Fred's body was found on the south side of the alley behind their home in Carollton. He had been shot above the right ear. Sally Belle and Bert Murray were indicted by a grand jury on March 18, 1901 for his murder. Their trial began on May 7, 1901 in Jerseyville, Ill. The jurors were all men.

The following was brought out in trial:

The gun was found 2 to 3 inches from the left hand. There was no evidence of gun powder on his clothing.
He had a $3000 life insurance policy which the widow would receive.
Sally Belle and Bert Murray were having an affair and she told his wife that she was "in love" with Mr. Murray.
Sally Belle carried a gun and a witness testifed that she had told her that if her husband ever crossed her path, she would kill him.
Fred had come home unannounced that morning and apparently found Mr. Murray at the house. A neighbor testified of loud noises coming from the house.
Bloody pillows & clothing were found in the smokehouse by a friend, but a nephew said that he had carried the bloody items out there after the undertaker cleaned the body. Yet, there was no visible blood on the victims clothing when he was found.
The prosecution claimed that the body was carried from the house into the alley and that there was an opening in the fence three feet wide through which it could have been carried.
Sally Belle delivered a son, Arva Oliver Halley Admire, while in prison.
On May 17, 1901, Mrs. Sally B. Admire and Bert Murray were found not guilty and released.
The above came from "The Carrollton Patriot", March 15, 1901; April 12, 1901; May 10, 1901; and May 17, 1901.
