Dorothy H. Adler, 92, of Decatur, died on Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Woodcrest Retirement Community's Nursing Center.
Dorothy was born on February 19, 1917, in Fountain County, Indiana, to Charles E. and Verna F. (Wilson) Howard.
She married Thomas W. Adler on May 3, 1941; he survives, in Decatur.
She is also survived by a son, Raymond M. (Kathy) Adler of Noblesville; two daughters, Dr. Verna (Keith) MacCornack of New York City and Mrs. Theresa (Mark) Bachmann of Westport, Connecticut; a sister-in-law, Dorothy I. Adler of Monroe; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and one sister.
She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Decatur, where she taught Sunday school for many years and was a member and former president of the Women's Guild.
She was also a lifetime member of International Writers Club of Poets; an associate member of Christian Writers Club of Crawfordsville; a member of the Adams County Historical Society; a former board member for mental health; a member of Friendship Circle; and a 4-H Leader for many years.
She formerly worked as a homemaker and a school teacher.
Visitation will be from noon-4 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2009, at Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur, and one hour prior to service at the church on Monday.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 6, 2009, at 11 a.m. in Zion United Church of Christ in Decatur. Rev. Linn Bartling will be officiating.
Burial will take place in Decatur Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Zion United Church of Christ in Decatur.
