Lovie Lelia Adkison Kirkpatrick, 87, of Piedmont, had a given name Lovie that expressed the love in her heart for all those she knew and those who knew her. A lifetime Piedmont resident, she died peacefully in the early morning hours of Oct. 19, 2012 at her home.

Mrs. Kirkpatrick was born Aug. 15, 1925 to parents Marion Frank Adkison and Minnie Belle Hart Adkison in rural Calhoun County, Ala. She was an avid lover of gardening and fishing at Weiss Lake in Centre. In addition to Mrs. Kirkpatrick taking great pleasure in being a wife, a mother, and homemaker, she worked outside the home at Steward's 5-and-10 variety store and Lawtex in Piedmont. She was also a member of Northside Baptist Church in Piedmont.

Mrs. Kirkpatrick was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Mr. James Lawrence Kirkpatrick Jr., son Jerry Wayne Kirkpatrick, and grandson Wayne Kirkpatrick. Also preceding her in death were brothers Duncan Adkison and Robert Adkison. Mrs. Kirkpatrick was the last surviving sister of her family, which included Lillie Adkison Prevett, Annie Adkison, Alma Adkison, and two unnamed infant sisters.

Mr. and Mrs. Kirkpatrick were married on July 14, 1941 in Spring Garden, Ala. Their marriage lasted 69 years until Mr. Kirkpatrick's death on Feb. 25, 2011. Their marriage produced four children, 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren
