1953 - 2012

Michael Dale "Mike" Adkins Sr, 59, of Raceland, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec.31, 2012, at his residence with his loving family by his side.

He was born September 14, 1953, in Logan, WV., a son of Carrie Vance Adkins of Worthington and the late Manford Adkins.

Mike was a Safety Director for McSweeney's in South Point, Ohio, retired from AK Steel, was formerly employed as a Welder for the Newport News Shipyard in Newport News, Va., was a 1971 graduate of Raceland High School, and was a KY colonel. Mike accepted Christ as his Savior, was saved on Easter Sunday, 2012, and became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greenup. While talking to Mike, he was sure to tell you of his love for the Lord and his church.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Ruth Lunsford Adkins, two sons, Michael Dale (Amanda) Adkins Jr of Franklin Furnace, OH., and Chris (Dana) Adkins of Raceland, four brothers, Manford Ray (Debbie) Adkins and Marvin Gail (Sharon) Adkins, both of Ashland, Mark (Brenda) Adkins of Ironton, OH., and Frank Adkins of Worthington, and three granddaughters, Ariel Adkins, Micaela Adkins and Nicki Hall.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Evans Funeral Home in Raceland, by the Rev. Jack Edwards. Burial will follow in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.

Visitation from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
