Monica Adkins, 87, of Franklin Street died at 7:52 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2006, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Clem Davis. Calling hours will be from 9 a.m. until time of Mass at the church. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Arrangements were made Hathaway–Myers Dignity Memorial Chapel on Pearl Street.

Memorials may be made to St. Bartholomew Catholic Church or Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Mrs. Adkins was born July 6, 1918, in Loogootee, the daughter of Richard Thomas and Bridget Kidwell. She married James "Jim" V. Adkins on Dec. 31, 1937, in Loogootee.

She graduated in 1936 from the St. Johns Catholic School for girls in Loogootee. Mrs. Adkins had at one time operated a home child-care service. She was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Columbus, where she volunteered. She was a very loving wife, mother and was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, James "Jim" V. Adkins of Columbus; a daughter, Beverly Pardieck of Richmond; sons, James Robert (Katheryn) Adkins of Lexington, Ky., Gregory (Kristin) Adkins of Columbus and Mark Stephen (Judye) Adkins of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren; Lynn (Joe) Darnell of Snohomish, Wash., Liz (Billy) Atkins of Eaton, Ohio, Jimmy (Heather) Adkins of Georgetown, Ky., Stephanie Adkins of Lexington, Ky., Benjamin and Mark Adkins, both of Columbus, and Jeremy Scott Adkins and Jennifer Erin Adkins, both of Charlotte; five great–grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Ruth (John) Crooke–Boyles of Sky Valley, Ga.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister; and four brothers.
