Geraldine Adkins, 56, of Big Creek, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, August 2, 2007 at CAMC Memorial Division in Charleston.
Born May 8, 1951, at Garrett Fork of Chapmanville, she was a daughter of the late James B. Jr. and Buliah Watts Mills. Also preceding her in death was one sister, Betty McCoy of Chapmanville; two brothers, Richard and Gordon Mills, both of Garrett Fork; two brothers-in-law, Jimmie Browning and Clifford Adkins, and her mother and father-in-law, Cora Frances and Earl Edward Adkins.
Geraldine was a member of the Gospel Truth Independent Baptist Church at Stone Branch and a former employee of The Logan Banner. Geraldine was a community mother, always there for anyone who needed her, and she never knew a stranger.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Robert Lee Adkins Sr.; one daughter, Angela Dawn Adkins of Big Creek; three sons, Robert Lee Jr. (Amy Jolene) Adkins, Johnny Ray Adkins and Charles Edward (Kimberly) Adkins, all of Big Creek; five sisters, Lula (Shelvy) Conley, Fay (Charles) Killian, and Mildred (Bob) Sloan, all of Crawley, Mary (Leonard) Jarvis of Rossmore and Rose McCoy of Danville; three brothers, Ray (Lisa Bennett) Mills of Boone County, and Rick Mills and James B. (Wanda) Mills III, both of Garrett Fork; three grandchildren, Natasha Dawn, Abagail Jolene, and Jordan Lee Adkins, all of Big Creek; two great-grandchildren, Addison Christine Vance of Rossmore and Cameron Lee Browning of Harts; her special friend and sister-in-law, Myrtle Browning of Chapmanville; her favorite cousin, Philmore Powell of Danville; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Virgil (Alice) Griffith of North Carolina, Johnny (Marie) Adkins of Ohio, Arnold (Dollie) Griffith, Betty (James) Fleming and Georgia Adkins, all of Harts, Willa (Taylor) Smith of Rossmore, Harold (Ruth) Adkins of Ohio and Earl Adkins Jr of Huntington.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, August 6, at the Freeman Funeral Home in Chapmanville with Pastor Cecil Spry and Rev. Jimmy Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Pallbearers will be members of the Gospel Truth Independent Baptist Church.
