Mr. Adkins was born Sept. 9, 1921, in Iredell County and was the son of the late Alvin Hughey Adkins and Florence Mae Steele Adkins.
Mr. Adkins is survived by his wife, Ann M. Adkins, of the home; three sons, J. David Adkins (Diana) of Dublin, Va., Tommy Williams (Pat) of Charleston, S.C, and Douglas Williams of Statesville; three daughters, Teresa A. Jones (Carrol) of Stony Point, Cathy Chambers of Naples, Fla., Betty Williams of Statesville; two brothers, Robert Allen Adkins (Loretta) and Kenneth Steele Adkins (Dorothy) of Statesville, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Adkins was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Hayes Adkins, and by a sister.
