Dean Ray Adkins, of Dixou, was born October 21, 1943 in Maries County, a son of Ray William and June Jewel (Scott) Adkins, and departed this life at 6:50 p.m., on Friday, November 21, 2008, at his residence near Dixon. Dean had attained the age of 65 years and one month.
Dean was preceded in death , by his parents, step-mother: Mattie Mae Adkins; one brother: Carl Adkins; and one sister: Bobbie Bade.
Dean served as a Boiler
Technician in the United Stated Navy for three years. His ship was a k^y participant in the "Bay of Pigs" Cuban Missile Crisis in 1961. During his working life he had worked at the Marshall Habilitation Center as a maintenance supervisor. He was a proud member of the Rader Methodist Church.
Those left to mourn the passing of Dean include his loving companion: Mary Humphrey, Dixon: one son and daughter-in-law: Dean II and LaNette Adkins, Centralia; eight sisters: Colleen Meloy, Vienna: Barbara King, Rolla; AhnaGoodman, Dixon: Janice "BakerTPortEndT Indiana; Shirley Garringer, Saratoga, Indiana; Janet Void, Whitehall, Michigan; Janelle _Randall_. _Ronnd T ake Beach, Illinois; andleanine Dunn, Fort Wayne, Indiana; and four grandchildren: Dean III, Libby, Drew, and Kyle; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted for Dean at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 25, 2008, in the Vienna Chapel of the Biimingham-Martin Funeral Homes with the Pastor Karen Alden, of Vienna United Methodist Church, officiating. "Sweet As The Melody," "Get Down On Your Knees And Pray" and "Go Rest High On That Mountain" were played for the funeral service.
Interment with full military honors was in the Red Cemetery, Meta, under the direction of the Vienna Chape! of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Pallbearers foi Dean were Bruce Maylee, Dale Maylee, Scott Meloy, Raymond Cross, Ethan Goodman, and Ear] Harry. Honorary pallbearers were William Harry, Gary ,Younce. Elwood Ernest, William Asher. Carl Wilson, and Roben O'Bryan.
