Gerald "Jerry" Adell, 89, of Winthrop, passed away Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. Jerry was born on Sept. 2, 1919, in Winthrop, the son of John and Isabel (Davis) Adell. He attended schools in Readfield and Belgrade. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II, 25th Infantry Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart, during operations in the Pacific.
He married Marie Nadeau in 1946 and they enjoyed 56 years together before her death Dec. 31, 2001.
Jerry worked for the Maine Department of Transportation for 46 years as a shovel/loader operator in warm weather and in winter months, operated a plow for the Winthrop Maintenance Division.
In addition to his wife, Jerry was predeceased by brothers, Clint, Harold and Wesley; and sisters, Mary Adell, Helen Roy and Mildred Chamberlain.
He is survived by his sister, Christine Stevens, of Marlboro, Mass.; his brother, Tom Adell of Augusta and Florida; a stepson, Robert Curry of Kennebunkport, along with many nieces, nephews and a cousin.
A graveside ceremony, with military honors, will be held at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Belgrade, in the spring. (Kennebec Journal 3/1/2009)
