AUGUSTA - Thomas W. Adell, 85, of Charles Street, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta. He was born in Readfield on June 4, 1927, the youngest sibling of John C. and Isabel (Davis) Adell.
He attended Readfield schools and graduated from Kents Hill School.
Tom served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II in the 7th Air Force, stationed at Wheeler Field in Hawaii. After his honorable discharge in 1949, he returned to Readfield where he began employment at Bridge Construction as project timekeeper. After 12 years with Bridge Construction, he was appointed postmaster in the town of Readfield by then-President John F. Kennedy. He remained there for 28 years until his retirement in 1987.
He married J. Faye Luce on Sept. 25, 1949.
Tom was Past Master and for over 50 years a member of Lafayette Lodge No. 48 in Readfield. He was also a member of the Kora Temple Shrine, Alfred Maxwell Jr. Post No. 40 American Legion in Winthrop, Cobbossee Colony Golf Club and Lakes Golf Club in Plant City, Fla., where he wintered for many years after his retirement.
He was predeceased by his wife of 35 years, Faye Adell; his beloved companion of 10 years, Barbara Fogg; four brothers, Gerald, Wesly, Harold and Clinton Adell; and his four sisters, Christine Stevens, Mildred Chamberlin, Mary Adell and Helen Smith.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
A graveside committal service with military honors will be held at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta, in June. (Kennebec Journal 2/19/2013)
