NORFOLK - Alma Addison, of the 600 block of Pembroke Towers, passed quietly away May 11, 2010. Mrs. Addison was born in Heathspring, S.C., Dec. 16, 1908. She was 101 years old. She was a retired seamstress. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Addison; her mother and father, Wylie Mingo and Bessie Robinson; 11 siblings: six sisters, Elizabeth Champion of Norfolk, Mattie and Hazel Mingo, Lily Isom, Mamie McClendon, Mary Brooks; five brothers, Walter Ballard, Melvin Simpson, Willie Gransen, Ruben Mingo and Willie Mingo, all of Heathsprings, S.C.
She was a faithful and devout member of Campostella Heights Seventh-day Adventist Church of Norfolk. She served on the Usher Board and member of the Honorary Usher Board. Although she had no biological children, she had many sons and daughters in Christ.
Left to cherish her memory are two nephews, James Champion Jr. (Blanche) of Richmond, Va., Willie Champion of Virginia Beach; four nieces, Almal Allen, Adell Murray of Norfolk, Patricia Champion of Hoffman Estates, Ill., Paula Barnes of Yorktown, Va.; and a large host of other family members.
A celebration of her life will be held Monday, May 17, at Campostella Heights Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1006 Oakwood St., Norfolk, at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., followed by a repast in the dining hall in the funeral home.
Family will receive friends Sunday, May 16, from 2 to 5 p.m. in Woodlawn Funeral Home.
