Billy R. Addington
Funeral for retired Staff Sgt. Billy R. Addington, 69, Lawton, will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Randy Shorter, pastor, Bethel Assembly of God, officiating.
Sgt. Addington died Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, in Oklahoma City.
Burial with military honors will be in Fort Sill National Cemetery.
He was born Aug. 1, 1940, in Dante, Va., to Con D. and Bessie Mae James Addington. He graduated from Castlewood High School in 1959. He enlisted in the Army in October 1959. He completed basic training at Fort Gordon, S.C. He was stationed in Hawaii and left the Army in January 1962. He went back to Virginia and worked for American Furniture Factory in Martinsville. He married Louise Lawson on June 22, 1963, in Dante, Va. He re-entered the Army in 1967 and served in Vietnam and Korea, with duty stations at Fort Hood, Texas; Washington, D.C.; Fort Lewis, Wash.; Fort Ord, Calif.; Baumholder, Germany; and Fort Sill, where he retired on April 1, 1985, after more than 25 years of service. His awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with five Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Bronze Star Medal, two Overseas Service Bars, Good Conduct Medal-6, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon-1, Sharpshooter (Rifle-M-16), and the Army Commendation Medal. After his retirement from the Army, he worked for Northrop-ITT Services at Fort Sill as a supply tech from 1987 until he retired from D.O.L. in January 2002.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons: Ron Addington and Billy R. Addington Jr., both of Lawton; three brothers and two sisters-in-law: Conley and Florence Addington, Maple City, Mich.; Eugene and Marie Addington and Johnnie Addington, all of Dante, Va.; a sister-in-law, Vivian Addington, Hooks, Texas; eight grandchildren: Ron Addington Jr., Leigha Addington, Johnathon Addington, Joshua Nickell, Abel Hernandez, Raymond Hernandez, Patricha Melvin and Samantha Siaca, all of Lawton; three great-grandchildren: Maleigha Addington, Ayden Hernandez and Isaiah Martin Jr.; and many nephews, nieces and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: James McNeil, Charles Everett, Dewey and Richard; and two sisters: Virginia and Mildred.
