Driver Dies of Heart Attack; Car Hits Store
James J. Addams, 633 W. Douglas St., died en route to a Freeport hospital Sunday afternoon after suffering a heart attack while driving an automobile...
...Mrs. Addams, who was riding in the car, said she did not notice anything wrong with her husband until after the car struck the building. Mrs. Addams was unhurt.
County Coroner Gene Burke said an autopsy showed that Addams died of a heart attack and that there will be no inquest.
Addams was born in Cedarville Aug. 19, 1880, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Augustus Addams. His marriage to Floy Clingman took place Nov. 11, 1903.
He farmed for several years and during World War I and World War II served as a horse buyer for the government. He operated the Pontiac garage in Freeport for several years and later engaged in real estate dealing.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Elks.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Lois) Stites, Winslow; and Mrs. Paul (Marian) Kolterman, Loves Park; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Harry H. of Hotchkiss, Colo.
Services will be in the Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. George F. Shepherd, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, will conduct the service. Interment will be in Cedarville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 o'clock tonight.

Mr. Addams was a second cousin of the late Jane Addams, Rockford college alumna who founded Chicago's famed Hull House.
