Emma Bradford is my GG Grandmother, the mother of Tessie Bradford Adams. Tessie and her brother Joe Bradford are buried near her at Black Creek. Georgia marriage records show that William J. Bradford married Emma F. Adcock in Gordon County, GA on October 1, 1867. Then the 1870 Census shows that Emma and her husband W. J. Bradford lived near Pine Log, GA with their only daughter at that time Gettysburg. The 1880 census shows they were living in Etowah County, AL in the Black Creek Community along with his mother N G Dixon, daughter Gettysburg, daughter Claudia, daughter Tessie and son Joe. By her death in 1882 the children were orphaned and each went to live with different friends and relatives.( Tessie went to live with Alec and Eliza Adams on farm adjacent to Black Creek Baptist Church). Her husband (W. J.) is not buried in at Black Creek Cemetery. My Grandfather told me he was buried at the Greenwood Cemetery near Keener Community in Etowah County, however I have been unable to locate the grave (possibly unmarked). Another family story is that he was drowned returning home from a meeting when he tried to cross a swollen creek. His body was not found for several days and was buried near where it was found.I believe his name was William J. and that he was Confederate soldier with the 18th Georgia Infantry during the Civil War (This unit fought at Gettysburg, thus the name of his oldest child).

Her parents names were Simeon and Minerva Ponder Adcock who resided in Gordon County, Georgia prior to Civil. They were married in 1834 in Morgan County, GA.
