Funeral services for Iva Aday Vaughn, 85, of Purcell were held June 22, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Washington. Interment was at Washington Cemetery under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
Mrs. Vaughn passed away Saturday, June 19, 2010 in Purcell.
She was born Oct. 21, 1924 in Washington, Okla., the older of two daughters born to Eldon Oliver Allen and Effie Mae Fowler Allen. Iva grew up a farm girl in Washington and graduated from Washington High School in 1941.
She married Melvin L. "Bud" Aday on June 8, 1946, a young man from the community. Together they raised two children and together owned and operated Aday Propane business for many years. After Bud passed away in 1975, Iva married Edmond Vaughn Feb. 26, 1983. They made their home in Purcell where she remained living after Edmond passed away in 2000.
Throughout her life, Iva had been an active member of the Washington First Baptist Church. For nearly 30 years she taught children's Sunday School and helped in Bible school. Some of her favorite hobbies were ceramics, arts and crafts, crocheting and cooking. She received her most joy from babysitting her grandchildren and niece.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands and a brother-in-law, John Morehead.
She is survived by her daughter, Karla Brakefield and husband, Mack, of Purcell; her son, Eddie Aday and wife, Sue, of Edmond; sister, Pauline Morehead of Washington; two grandchildren, Sundee Busby and husband, Jason, of Edmond and Sloan Aday and wife, Caitlin, of Oklahoma City; one great-granddaughter, Leighton Busby; two stepsons, William Vaughn and wife, Jane, of Centralia, Mo., and James Vaughn of Luther, Okla.; one niece, Lora Krupitzer and husband, Jim, of Norman; one great-niece, Kelsie Krupitzer; five step-grandchildren, Elizabeth Oettina and husband, Andrew, of Centralia, Mo., Gretchen Sullins and husband, Steve, Heidi Vaughn, Nickolas Vaughn and James Vaughn III, all of Luther; and three great-grandchildren, Alex Oettina, Tristin Vaughn and Connor Sullins.
