Leighton Girl Is Dead Of Polio, Ninth In Area
The death toll from Muscle Shoals' polio epidemic rose to nine, as little Wanda Gail Aday died Wednesday night in Birmingham's Jefferson-Hillman Hospital. The child, four year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George B. Aday of Leighton route one, was the fifth polio victim from Colbert. She died around 7 p.m. last night after being under treatment in Birmingham since August 23. Her first cousin, Sybil Aday, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Buford Aday of Leighton route one, is still under treatment in Birmingham for the disease. Wanda Gail is survived by her parents, two sisters, Dorothy Mae and Gladys Marie; one half-brother, Billy Woods; the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Aday of Sheffield route one; the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Minnie Jackson of Sheffield route one. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Brown Service of Tuscumbia.
