James Haworth Adamson, former principal of Clackamas High School, died Thursday in a Milwaukie hospital. He was 75.

Mr. Adamson was born in Pocatello, Idaho, and moved with his family to Hillsboro in 1905. After completing university training in Oregon, he taught and was principal at Algoma Grade School in Klamath County, then served as principal at schools in Carlton, Sheridan, McMinnville, Tillamook, Baker and Milwaukie.

He was a member of the Oak Grove United Methodist Church, where he held many offices; was a past president of Milwaukie Rotary Club, a member of the Oregon and National education associations, a volunteer worker with the Fish program and a former board member of Willamette View Manor.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret A. Adamson; son, Donald James Adamson of Milwaukie; daughters, Jean Marie Holznagel of Hillsboro and Joan Adamson of Washington, D.C.; sister, Harriet Oliver of Hillsboro; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday in Oak Grove United Methodist Church, with private interment in River View Cemetery.
