Miss AGNES S. ADAMS
Miss Agnes S. Adams of Shaftsbury died Thursday at the age of 81 at the Church Street home built by her grandfather, Clark Bates, more than a century ago.
Miss Adams was a native of Shaftsbury, born Feb 18, 1891 to James and Anna (Bates) Adams, and received her education in the Shaftsbury schools.
Her mother was born in 1874 in the same house in which Miss Adams died yesterday.
She had resided in Washington, D.C., from 1917, when she entered the Federal Civil Service, until 1951, when she retired and moved back to Shaftsbury.
Survivors are a niece, Ruth Adams Troy of Springfield, Mass., a nephew, James C. Adams of Cleveland, Ohio, and a sister-in-law, Pauline H. Adams of Ellenburg, N.Y.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, with the Rev. Angus J. MacDonald, pastor of the Shaftsbury United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will follow at a later date in the family plot in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery.
Friends may pay respects at the funeral home from 7 to 9 pm Saturday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bennington Friends of Retarded Children or the American Cancer Society through the funeral home office.
