Five people were killed and 27 were injured in the explosion of a truck laden with 400 cases of dynamite, which caught fire after colliding with a car in Waco, Georgia. The Friday night blast demolished the truck and the car along with a firetruck and ambulance that were first on the scene.
A crater 75 feet wide and 20 feet deep severed highway 78 and windows were broken in Waco and Bremen.
Killed were: David Lee Smith 32, a volunteer fireman from Bremen, ; Doyal Bell 31, volunteer fireman of Waco, ; Cleve O. Heath 46 a wrecker driver of Bremen, Talmadge Adams 40 of Waco, driver of the VW that collided with the truck; and Troy Allen of Muscadine, Alabama.
